Here’s the perfect gift for everyone from college students to seniors, including that college friend who want to live an alternative life style!

After living in a tiny cottage for two years, Judy Alter, a lifelong amateur chef, developed some new ideas for cooking without a stove or a microwave. You won’t find a new idea about the holiday turkey here nor suggestions for feeding that houseful of relatives, but you will find innovative and new ideas for everything from appetizers to light suppers. Most recipes feed two to four.

And there’s a web page so that cooking in a tiny kitchen can be an ongoing conversation. Judy has already chosen recipes not in the cookbook to share on the website, and she welcomes your recipes, questions, and suggestions.

“Love cooking? Love the minimalist lifestyle? Your tiny kitchen doesn’t need to limit your gourmet dreams. Judy Alter’s Gourmet On a Hot Plate will inspire you with big ideas to satisfy everyone around the table.” —Susan Wittig Albert, author of Queen Anne’s Lace

I run two blogs. One is my personal blog, Judy’s Stew, and has been going on since 2006. The other one, Gourmet on a Hot Plate, is newer and goes with my book of the same name. Please visit them.

About Judy (that’s me!)

Please come on in, have some coffee or tea, and learn a little bit about me. Not only am I an author, I’m also a chef, a mother of five (includes a four-legged daughter), and a grandmother of seven rather rambunctious grandchildren.

With over 30 years of writing under my belt, I invite you to take a peek at the list of selected publications and books I’ve written, largely mysteries and historical novels. I think and hope you’ll like at least some of them.

Contract for Chaos (eighth in Kelly O’Connell Mystery series) was released on September 20, 2018. Racial tensions and shootings erupt in Kelly’s town and Kelly is in the eye of its storm.

Businesswoman, busy mother of two, and a busybody-around-town… Officer Mike Shandy thinks she’s got a knack for getting into trouble!

Susan Hogan is a no-nonsense professor of English at the Oak Grove University in Texas. So how on earth did Dr. Hogan get tangled in murder and mayhem?!

Twins. An inheritance. A cafe. A bed & breakfast. Quirky characters. And of course, murders. Strained relationships, finger-pointing, and who-dun-it galore!

I’ve written many Young Adult books in the past. Now some of them are being reprinted and made available! Young and old readers alike will enjoy these books.
